Bye-bye Beautiful

Posted: October 6, 2014 in Poetry

Yeah…

you can waste your time
beating yourself
into a pre-fabricated mold
& you/ll always be
just another
pretty face
but if you accentuate
what makes you
different
from everyone else
you become
beautiful.

Love like Romeo
loved Juliet
before committing
suicide
after thinking
the one star in his night sky
had died
killing the light
once refracted
off each other
particles
no longer colliding
split Adams
falling to pieces
all over Eve
laid out in the green
of the garden
better to believe
that this is heaven.

It sometimes seems
that nothing good
comes this way
then rips seam
& lead to
something else
an avalanche occurs
carrying everything
in its wake
if you can/t find
your way clear
a path if
people don/t see you
cause a scene
if they can/t hear
keep shouting
they can/t feel you
unless they cry
when you touch
cut them deep
make ’em bleed
the truth hurts
who do we think
we are to make
up for who
we are not
meanwhile
we will stay
in the moment
until we have to
rise to the
occasion
if you know me
please push me
we/ll both be
the better from it

What is it
with dads that make
them hate their sons
so bad it makes
them chase vapors
of ghosts the sweet
elusive sons
reduced to
vehicles of
salvation lets
get didactic
Abraham
to Isaac
Absalom
to David
dancing through
the kingdom
all his heart
could not save him
even the
messiah
had a father
to forsake him.

Doors to Walls

Doorways
to other places
vision
for dark spaces
this world
little slanted
sliding
by sad faces
feeling
like I/m blinking
right out
of existence
digits
in a system
thinking
anywhere is
better
than where you are
until
you arrive there
fuckers
everywhere.

Aren/t we ever to be?

Whatever happened
to autonomy?

Dog-tired wage slavery
life sentence
perpetual penance
escape inward
to the inner city
the crush
of the crushed
under the weight
of the pressure
American dream.

Was it ever not
fantasy?

Is there another
reality?

Without Poverty
here no one
feeds
the hungry
fucking
multitudes
struggling
make-believe free
must be real
we got belief
we watched it all
burn On T.V.
celebrity
tax write-off charity
distributing
autographed pity
sanctimoniously
not money
want the power
of their currency
to manifest
our own philosophy
on life
about the way WE
think things should be
& it works
over the nerves
anxiety building
hate starting
thinking:

Why am I doing this?

Ain/t I a free man?

Can/t I just opt-out?

But you can/t,
dollars and sense

& you ask yourself
if there was ever a time
when you were a part
of something else
something bigger
than yourself
something more
than the gathering
of material wealth.

I/m so close to finally achieving what I/ve always expected my life to be.

I feel the pulse of god all around me.

& yeah…

it may be the hum of traffic.

But to me,

it/s just a matter of perspective.
