Aren/t we ever to be?

Whatever happened
to autonomy?

Dog-tired wage slavery
life sentence
perpetual penance
escape inward
to the inner city
the crush
of the crushed
under the weight
of the pressure
American dream.

Was it ever not

Is there another

Without Poverty
here no one
the hungry
make-believe free
must be real
we got belief
we watched it all
burn On T.V.
tax write-off charity
autographed pity
not money
want the power
of their currency
to manifest
our own philosophy
on life
about the way WE
think things should be
& it works
over the nerves
anxiety building
hate starting

Why am I doing this?

Ain/t I a free man?

Can/t I just opt-out?

But you can/t,
dollars and sense

& you ask yourself
if there was ever a time
when you were a part
of something else
something bigger
than yourself
something more
than the gathering
of material wealth.

& this is how momentum starts
it is exciting
but always let it be
never keep it
to yourself
fire is
meant to be shared
you better be ready
to die hard
for your dreams
this land doesn/t take kindly
to dreamers.

It is not,
what it is

you/ll never change
what it is

if we did what it is we want/
bet these guys
stopped touching kids
this world makes you
feel crazy
like you’re the only
one seeing this
the homeless man
down the street
he got no insurance
he real sick
while I  walk by
just to give him
a roundhouse kick.

& it’s only getting colder
though the ice is getting thin

a life are we living?

heart atrophy
we are all in

bought the fear
hoping for change

the story/s getting older
something needs to flip

suicide apocalypse

I will be what I am
no person owns
me who we are
continue to laugh
the truth comes out
keep riding this bus
ain’t changing its route
don’t play a part

we never were no more.
